With the support of NRMA Safer Driving School Road Safety Grants The Deaf Society of NSW was able to create a new series of road safety videos in Australian Sign Language, Auslan, to help deaf and hard of hearing drivers stay safe on the road.
The ‘Hands On Road Safety Access’ videos give the deaf community wider access to road safety information and helped to overcome the literacy challenges many deaf people face.
The six videos contain important information about:
"We applaud the NRMA for recognising the need to improve accessibility for deaf people to the critical information about driver safety. This project has been about accessibility, not disability, and the NRMA has shown great insight in providing equity for deaf people in this regard."

NRMA is pleased to announce the names of organisations that have been successful in the NRMA Safer Driving School Road Safety Grants for 2011.
This year, the NRMA has awarded $100,000 in grants for 54 new road safety programs that address a range of road safety issues including road safety around schools, pedestrian, bike, bus and car safety for children and scooter safety for mobility-impaired or older users.
NRMA Safer Driving School Road Safety grant program is in its tenth year and the response has been amazing, with hundreds of grant submissions received demonstrating clearly that the community is seeking to find ways to enhance the safety, confidence and independence of road users at all ages.

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
