The NRMA has welcomed the Australian Government's announcement today to commit $3.56 billion towards the Pacific Highway, and encouraged both the Australian and NSW Governments to work together to finish the project.
NRMA Motoring & Services President Wendy Machin said everyone wants the Pacific Highway to be finished.
"Today's announcement is great news and we encourage both the NSW and the Australian Governments to work together to finish the project which will ultimately save lives," said Ms Machin.
"The Pacific Highway is one of the most dangerous roads in the country and accounts for around one-third of fatalities on the National Network.*
"The fact that the Australian Government has made this announcement ahead of the Federal Budget next week, clearly recognises how important this project is to the nation and the citizens of NSW.
"Last year motorists across the state voted the Pacific Highway the worst road in NSW. If both levels of Government work together, we could see the project finished by 2016.
"We will be fighting to make sure the Pacific Highway is the number one priority in the NSW State Budget in June."
