ACCC: Growing Sharper Teeth On Petrol

ACCC: Growing Sharper Teeth On Petrol

Author: NRMA MediaDate: 26 January 2008

The Australian Consumer and Competition Commission's position on petrol price gouging is growing stronger by the day, NRMA President Alan Evans said today.

Mr Evans said the NRMA was heartened by ACCC Chairman Graham Samuel's comments that he had lost patience with the oil companies over petrol pricing.

"The ACCC appears to be growing sharper teeth and finally standing up to the oil companies," Mr Evans said.

"Australians are sick of being ripped off and we're pleased the ACCC has joined the NRMA's three-year campaign to end the rort.

"The oil companies continue to thumb their noses at the community while families struggle to fill up the car.

"The Petrol Commissioner must be appointed as quickly as possible to remind the oil companies that they are not above the law.

"With the ACCC's support, the Petrol Commissioner will force the oil companies to finally adopt a transparent pricing system."
