Following completion of the NRMA Motoring & Services Board election in November, the newly elected Board met for the first time today.
At the meeting, Ms Wendy Machin was appointed as President and Mr Michael Tynan Deputy President.
Ms Machin succeeds Mr Alan Evans who has served as President of the NRMA for four years. Mr Evans continues as a Director of the Board.
NRMA President Ms Machin said that the Board would continue to build on the NRMA's success as a growing family of businesses serving more than two million members in New South Wales and the ACT.
"During the past three years the Board and management have worked together to shepherd the NRMA into an era of financial sustainability and growth," Ms Machin said.
"The Board has also overseen a new strategic direction for the NRMA, which has delivered more services and benefits for Members than ever before.
"We have also enabled the NRMA to regain its voice as the premier Australian advocate for motorists and I would like to note in particular the great work of Alan Evans in this regard, who has worked tirelessly to advocate on a wide range of issues affecting motorists.
"My priorities as President will be to continue to focus on those things we know are important to our Members - holding the Government accountable for the building of vital infrastructure; reducing the cost burden on motorists and ensuring that the NRMA remains strong through these challenging economic times."
Ms Machin was first appointed to the Board of NRMA in March 2005. She represents the Coghlan region covering the North Coast from the Hunter up to the Queensland border and in that role has led the NRMA's ongoing campaign to secure greater Government funding for vital upgrades to the Pacific Highway.
She is a member of the Governance, Compensation & Nomination Committee and the Policy & Advocacy Committee and is Chair of NRMA's wholly owned travel subsidiary company Tourism & Leisure Holdings Pty Limited. Ms Machin is married with three children.
Deputy President Mr Tynan welcomed the appointment of Wendy Machin as President.
"Wendy is hard working, knowledgeable and passionate about the NRMA and I am sure that she will be a terrific President," Mr Tynan said.
"I would also like to pay a special tribute to Alan Evans who had been an incredibly hard working President and has led the revitalisation of the NRMA both in terms of our financial sustainability and with respect to our reputation and standing in the community we serve."
Ms Machin said it would be a true honour to be appointed President.
"I now look forward to working closely with my fellow Board members, our Group CEO Tony Stuart and his management team to ensure that the NRMA continues to provide Members with quality roadside assistance and a range of other motoring, travel and lifestyle benefits."
