Electronic Tag Victory For NRMA

Electronic Tag Victory For NRMA

Author: NRMA MediaDate: 02 December 2008

NRMA Motoring & Services President Alan Evans today congratulated NSW Roads Minister Michael Daley for removing the $40 deposit for new electronic tags – a clear win for NSW motorists.

"The pressure is now on Sydney's other toll operators - Roam and E-Way to follow suit," Mr Evans said.

The move to abolish the deposit ensures motorists earn the interest on their own money - not the RTA.

Mr Evans said the RTA had millions of dollars of motorists' money stashed away earning interest in return for a bit of plastic with an in-built microchip.

"The NRMA will be pushing for the RTA enabling motorists who currently have a $40 deposit with the RTA for their existing tag to switch over to the new deal," Mr Evans said.

"For a family with two vehicles, the $80 refund could be a welcome gift in time for Christmas."
