The RTA must keep residents of Macksvile informed about their plans for the Macksville Pacific Highway Bypass.
NRMA Director Wendy Machin today called on the RTA to engage with the local community so that they were better informed about what impact the bypass would have on their local community.
"With so much indecision around the RTA’s plans it’s little wonder that the local community is staging a protest," Ms Machin said.
"The RTA needs to come clean on its plans for the Macksville Pacific Highway bypass.
"Local residents deserve to be included in the planning process - they are the ones who will be affected most after all.
Wendy Machin and the NRMA have been long term advocates for upgrading the Pacific Highway to improve safety for all motorists.
An NRMA audit in 2007 found that from 2004 to 2007 there had been 175 crashes on the Pacific Highway from Kempsey to Nambucca Heads. The crashes claimed 7 lives and left 137 people injured.
Ms Machin said the NRMA was concerned that the RTA’s delays in releasing plans for the by-pass could limit the chance for local residents to have their say.
"This would be a sorry outcome for Macksville residents – they deserve better,” Ms Machin said.
"This by-pass and the Pacific Highway upgrade generally will bring many benefits to local communities along the north coast -but we need to ensure residents have their say on the best way to upgrade the highway."

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
