New 'No Fees' E-Toll Account A Good Start

New 'No Fees' E-Toll Account A Good Start

Author: NRMA Media Date: 04 December 2008

NRMA Motoring & Services has welcomed the NSW Government's announcement of an electronic E-toll tag account and changes to its casual user pass but says more could be done to make life easier for motorists.

NRMA President Alan Evans said the NRMA supported the Easy Toll tag account which will be available from the 15th of December but more changes needed to be made.

"The NRMA has been calling for the $40 tag deposit to be abolished and while the new tag account is a step in the right direction there are still some issues to be addressed," Mr Evans said.

"A cash payment option is good news as some motorists do not have credit cards.

"But it would make life easier if these motorists could also go to Australia Post or to a service station as well as a motor registry to make a payment.

"This would allow families without a tag to be able to go to the zoo or to the beach on the weekend without the stress and hassle of visiting a motor registry during the week to obtain a tag.

"The NRMA has also long campaigned for the RTA to provide a casual user pass that works on all Sydney toll roads just like the Roam Express pass and we welcome the Government's move to make its pass interoperable."

The NRMA has a number of concerns which will be raised with the Government including:

  • Publicly available information on toll prices so motorists can plan their routes in advance. This includes easily visible, permanent signposting of fees positioned before all toll roads.
  • The ability for motorists to claim back unused prepaid cash payments.
  • The consequences of full e-tolling for the high number of people using the Sydney Harbour Bridge who still do not have a tag.

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
