North-West Congestion Meltdown: Coming To A Suburb Near You

NRMA Motoring & Services Director Coral Taylor has strongly urged the NSW Government to get north-west Sydney infrastructure plans back on the map or risk a congestion meltdown.

"The recent axing of public transport infrastructure projects in the north-west worsens an already unacceptable situation for the region's commuters," Ms Taylor said.

"The NRMA believes the rate of north-west road construction during the past decade has not been adequate.

"We applauded the government for taking two steps forward, however not long after, we are now seeing them take three steps back and as a result critical transport services can't keep up with demand, resulting in serious congestion and an unacceptable level of inconvenience for commuters.

"The NSW Department of Planning is anticipating 140,000 new dwellings in the North West Growth Centre by 2031 which in turn will bring tens of thousands of commuters on to local roads and railways.

"North-west residents demand to know what the government plans to do as the region's population continues to swell, given that already overcrowded buses, roads and railways service such a small percentage of residents.

"The NRMA has a long history of working in conjunction with state governments in developing solutions to traffic, transport and road safety issues.

"We want to work with the government and infrastructure providers to help find solutions on behalf of north-west Sydney commuters before another project gets axed."
