NRMA Behind School Driver Education In The Sutherland Shire

Author: NRMADate: 24 June 2008

NRMA Motoring & Services will join Cronulla Rotary for a unique driver education program targeted towards Year 11 students at Cronulla High School tomorrow.

Local Director Michael Tynan was thrilled that the NRMA can contribute to outstanding driver education programs for young Shire residents such as the Rotary’s U Turn The Wheel presentation.

"It is common knowledge that young drivers make up such a small percentage of road users, however are involved in a much higher percentage of crashes," Mr Tynan said.

"It is in the NRMA’s best interests to reduce the number of young drivers involved in crashes and today’s program is one way we can contribute."

Cronulla Rotary spokesperson Stuart Hansman reiterated Mr Tynan’s sentiments.

"Rotary aims to offer programs such as U Turn The Wheel to assist youths in the community," Mr Hansman said.

"Today, the students will learn about road safety and gain a better understanding of the processes of choosing and maintaining a motor vehicle.

"Students will participate in six sessions including a car maintenance tutorial and a hands-on demonstration whereby a "lemon" is used to highlight the things to look for when buying a used vehicle."

Mr Tynan added that the NRMA’s Mobile Member Centre will also join the all-day program and students will be able to step inside the super-sized rig and view interactive and educational displays featuring road safety tips and a range of travel and lifestyle ideas.

"The Mobile Member Centre will provide the opportunity for young drivers to sign up for Free2go, NRMA's FREE roadside assistance for 17 and 18 year olds," Mr Tynan said.

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
