NRMA opens Southern Highlands & Goulburn Safer Driving School

Author: NRMA MediaDate: 06 February 2008

NRMA Motoring & Services has brought its Safer Driving Schools program to the Southern Highlands and Goulburn to help arm learner drivers with the skills they need to stay safe behind the wheel.

NRMA President Alan Evans said a new NRMA Safer Driving School was now open seven-days-a-week, covering Goulburn, Mittagong, Bowral, Berrima, Moss Vale and Picton.

"The NRMA is pleased to be able to bring its unique style of driving school to the Southern Highlands and Goulburn," Mr Evans said.

"Learner drivers will be educated about road safety during their lessons, not simply taught how to pass their licence test.

"We believe getting the right kind of training is critical in the early stages of driving. Each NRMA Safer Driving School emphasises safety from day one and offers a detailed curriculum that teaches low risk driving techniques and hazard perception.

"Our aim is to ensure every learner driver develops the right skills and knowledge to cope with the normal driving events they can expect to encounter out on the road.

"The NRMA is committed to providing the best possible resources for young people as they prepare for the responsibility of having their own driving licence.

"We want to make sure that the current generation of learner drivers is the safest ever and the Safer Driving Schools bring us one step closer to this reality."

Mr Evans said the NRMA has opened around 40 Safer Driving Schools in NSW and the ACT since April last year, with a further 20 to open by September.

"Our Members are repeatedly telling us they want more driver training and education and this is what our schools are delivering," Mr Evans said.

"The program, however, is not limited to learner drivers with many experienced drivers also taking lessons to brush up on their driving skills and the latest road rules."

Lessons are conducted in the new Hyundai i30 Hatchback and Elantra SLX, some of the safest cars on the road. Manual and automatic transmission tuition is available.

Driving instructors Pam and Stewart Martin, of Goulburn, are fully accredited and have extensive experience in all aspects of low-risk driving tuition.
NRMA's first Safer Driving School in North Strathfield, Sydney features the first high-technology driving simulators ever to be used in Australia to teach pre-licence drivers.

NRMA also produces a Safer Driving DVD and can recommend one day post-licence driving courses in Sydney and Canberra.

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
