NRMA Motoring & Services is offering thousands of high school students throughout NSW and the ACT the chance to win driving lessons and other great prizes in a bid to improve road safety awareness in young people.
NRMA Director Dawn Fraser said the NRMA was issuing the challenge to high school students to design a cool road safety message for young people about cars, utes or motorcycles with the winner to be announced at the Sydney Grand Finals of the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge® in September.
"Kids can design a message for their peers on serious safety issues including alcohol, drugs, distractions, fatigue, speed or seatbelt wearing," Ms Fraser said.
"Young drivers are too often injured or killed as a result of a road crash. NRMA's road safety message challenge will get young people thinking about road safety and how their choices can prevent crashes.
"In fact, drivers aged 17-20 are three times more likely than drivers over 21 to be involved in a serious crash."
The competition, open to high school students throughout NSW and the ACT, runs from 1 April to 14 June 2008. Students have been challenged to produce a road safety message via:
Ms Fraser said the NRMA was a proud sponsor of Rock Eisteddfod Challenge®, a student-performance competition with close to 50 events running throughout Australia from May till September.
"NRMA's competition is a creative way to get students thinking about road safety - just like the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge® performances challenge students to tackle other topical issues through dance and drama, high school students" Ms Fraser said.
Winners of the NRMA road-safety message challenge will receive a package of ten driving lessons with an NRMA Safer Driving School franchise (16 years and over division) or an Apple iPod Nano (Under 16 division).

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
