NRMA Supports Northbound Drivers This Long Weekend

Author: NRMADate: 05 June 2008

Lake George will have a new attraction for drivers travelling along the Federal Highway this long weekend.

NRMA Motoring & Services’ touring Mobile Member Centre will join the State Emergency Service’s Driver Reviver at Lake George Wheatley VC Rest Area this Friday, Saturday and Monday.

NRMA President and local Director Alan Evans said travellers will be able to step inside the NRMA’s super-sized rig and view interactive and educational displays featuring road safety tips and a range of travel and lifestyle ideas.

"Families can get advice on how to prepare and pack their cars for road trips and also learn how to make travelling with the kids and pets safe and enjoyable," Mr Evans said.

"Cramped cars and map reading problems along with noisy and restless children can cause the most patient parent to become irritable.

"A range of NRMA’s travel and lifestyle publications will also be on sale. Travellers will especially appreciate NRMA’s Caravan & RV magazine which has a wealth of motoring ideas and tips." The Mobile Member Centre will provide Driver Reviver users with:

  • The opportunity to sign up for Free2go, NRMA’s FREE roadside assistance for 17 and 18 year olds. At the same time youth can test their skills on the motorways and practice hand-eye coordination on newly-installed Xbox consoles.
  • Demonstrations of NRMA’s Travel Planner that produces custom driving maps to save motorists time and petrol when holidaying.
  • Interactive crash test videos of a large variety of makes and models and online road safety activities to highlight road, vehicle and driver safety.
  • Latest safety fact sheets and information about alternative fuel.

Ms Evans said it was the NRMA, Volvo Trucks and Subaru’s longstanding partnership in safety that made it possible to provide practical ways of demonstrating road safety to the public. NRMA’s Mobile Member Centre will be at Lake George Wheatley VC Rest Area Driver Reviver on the Federal Highway southbound (approximately 37mins north of Canberra) on Friday 6 June (4:00pm - 10:00pm), Saturday 7 June (9:00am - 5:00pm) and Monday 9 June (2:00pm - 10:00pm).

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
