NRMA Travel Releases 25 More Places For ANZAC Day Tour

Author: NRMA MediaDate: 18 February 2008

NRMA Travel's exclusive ANZAC Member tour to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand has been expanded by 25 places.

NRMA Manager of Travel and Touring, Mr Michael Leary said the community's response to NRMA's ANZAC Tours has been overwhelming with all three 2007 tours sold out within weeks of the opening announcement.

"Travel writer and war historian Stu Lloyd will lead NRMA's Military History Tour and retrace the footsteps of Prisoners of War from Singapore to Thailand starting at Changi Prison," Mr Leary said.

"Members will also get the chance to visit significant sites during the journey towards Hellfire Pass in Thailand for the ANZAC Day dawn service.

"Hellfire Pass is a rock-cutting dug out by POWs with picks, hammers and hands. On one wall an ANZAC Memorial plaque is imbedded.

"On Anzac Day millions of people across Australia and New Zealand will take time to honour the surviving military personnel and fallen heroes who gave up their lives in the service of their country.

"This tour gives our Members the opportunity to be part of a most significant milestone in our nation's history."

One of the many breathtaking highlights of the seventeen-day tour is a night on the unique River Kwai Jungle hotel and a colourful Mon tribal village show. Sign on to appreciate these increasingly popular destinations from a fresh historical perspective.

The tour departing 14 April 2008 is priced at $5,270 per person twin share and includes:

  • All travel arrangements and transfers, including Qantas flights from Sydney and return from Bangkok.
  • Tour led by travel writer and war historian Stu Lloyd.
  • NRMA Travel escort from Sydney.
  • A dawn service at Hellfire Pass.
  • Fifteen nights of first class accommodation.
  • Most meals and all sight-seeing fees.
