New funding in the ACT Government budget for some of the territory’s more congested and dangerous roads is welcomed news for motorists.
"This year's budget has seen spending on Capital Territory roads almost double from $30.9 million (2007-08) to $59.4 million (2008-09) - that is great news for motorists," NRMA President Alan Evans said.
"We are pleased to see an increase in funding for some of the roads that the NRMA earmarked as critical, such as the Kings Highway, Cotter and Tharwa roads.
"However, we are disappointed that duplication of the Gungahlin Drive Extension was left out as this is one project that we believe needs to be completed - Gungahlin Drive is not up to scratch."
Mr Evans said the budget was a win for greener transport with the allocation of $530,000 for Park 'n' Ride and Bike 'n' Ride facilities.
"Research conducted by the NRMA found that almost half of NRMA members would use public transport for most of their trip if they had access to safe, well-lit parking spaces at their local public transport depot," Mr Evans said.
"More Park 'n' Ride facilities make public transport a viable option for many motorists - this gets more cars off our congested roads and in to public transport."

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
