The appointment of Australia's Petrol Commissioner is a good first step towards achieving fairer petrol prices in Australia.
NRMA Motoring & Services President Alan Evans said Mr Pat Walker had the full support of the NRMA and its Members in his task of delivering fairer petrol prices for all Australians.
"After three years of hard work by the NRMA, Australia now has a full-time Petrol Commissioner and that's a good first step to getting fairer prices in Australia," Mr Evans said.
"The new Commissioner has a tough job on his hands and motorists are expecting him to make the most of his powers to deliver transparency and fairness in the market.
"Monitoring fuel prices is one thing - the real task for the new Commissioner will be to act when oil companies are caught ripping Australians off, as they were over the Christmas holiday period.
"Mr Walker must not hesitate in asking for additional powers in order to achieve this task and on this issue he has the full backing of the NRMA."
