Reward volunteers with a holiday

Author: NRMA MediaDate: 10 March 2008

Volunteers who go out of their way to help others have a chance to be recognised and rewarded through the NRMA Motoring & Services’ Helping People Awards launched this week.

NRMA Director Dawn Fraser said the NRMA was celebrating volunteers in the community by giving them a chance to win a relaxing holiday break and a $5,000 donation to the charity of their choice.

"The NRMA Helping People Awards are a great chance for the community to recognise those selfless people who make it a part of their daily lives to help others often without reward or recognition," Ms Fraser said.

"Every community has people that go out of their way for others and now Sydney residents have an opportunity to recognise and congratulate them by nominating them for an NRMA Helping People Award.

"Everyone knows a person in their community who generously gives their time for a charity or not-for-profit organisation without asking or expecting anything in return.

"They could be your next-door neighbour, a friend, a relative or a member of your community.

"I am associated with a number of charities and know many volunteers who deserve recognition for their tireless efforts. Many charities simply could not function and do the amazing work in the community they do without the support of volunteers."

Nominations are open for all NSW and ACT volunteers with winners of the following four categories rewarded with an amazing holiday experience for two:

  • Community Volunteer Award (25-59 years old) - Sixteen-day, South Africa helping Hands Tour through NRMA Travel including visits to Soweto, Kruger National Park and Mozambique.
  • Seniors Volunteer Award (60 years and over) - Five-night stay at the world-renowned Adina Apartments in Copenhagen, Denmark.
  • Environmental Volunteer Award (25-59 years old) - Five-night stay at the Travelodge Mirambeena Resort in Darwin.
  • Youth Volunteer Award (17- 24 years old) - Six-night, Fiji adventure through NRMA Travel enjoying stunning white beaches and crystal clear lagoons.

A two-year, premium care membership for NRMA Motoring & Services will be awarded to the runners up in each nomination category.
