Schoolies: Take It Easy, It's A Long Drive Home

Schoolies: Take It Easy, It's A Long Drive Home

Author: NRMA MediaDate: 02 December 2008

The NRMA will have two Revive Stops along the Pacific Highway this weekend - a welcome sight for partied-out schoolies on their way home.

Schoolies doing the return trip are encouraged to pull over for regular rest breaks after their week-long celebration at popular Schoolies destinations on the Gold Coast and Byron Bay.

Free2go is NRMA's free roadside assistance, driver support and advocacy program for more than 75,000 young drivers in NSW and the ACT.

The Free2go Revive Stops will have free barbecues and drinks, giveaways, music, activities and NRMA Patrolmen on hand to conduct free health checks on cars.

NRMA Director, Wendy Machin, said the importance of keeping young drivers safe this Schoolies was not lost on NRMA's Free2go organisers, particularly since the students would be driving down the Pacific Highway - NSW's most dangerous road.

NRMA Free2go ambassador and MTV VJ Ruby Rose urged all Schoolies revellers to remember to pull over every two hours for the drive back.

Ruby Rose was on hand to chat with young drivers driving up to Schoolies destinations at a northbound NRMA Free2go Revive Stop at the beginning of the Schoolies northbound migration.

"I met about 40 young drivers and their friends, they were all aware of the dangers of fatigue and were definitely planning to stop at all the Free2go Revive Stops." Ruby Rose said.

"I am thinking that everyone will be very tired after a week of celebrating, so I am strongly urging everyone driving home from Schoolies to take the trip seriously, consider the very real danger of fatigue and take advantage of the Free2go Revive Stops."

The NRMA Free2go Revive Stops are located at:

  1. Halfway Creek (south of Grafton)
  2. Kundabung (south of Kempsey)

On Saturday 6 December and Sunday 7 December, 9am - 5pm.

The NRMA thanks the RTA for the use of suitable reviver sites along the Pacific Highway.

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
