Senior drivers looking to Years Ahead

Senior drivers looking to Years Ahead

Author: NRMA MediaDate: 07 April 2008

As part of Seniors Week celebrations, NRMA Director and swimming legend Dawn Fraser spoke at a special Years Ahead presentation for local NRMA Gold Members at North Strathfield today.

The program, presented by peer-aged presenters including Ms Fraser, covered issues such as crash prevention, road rules, safe driving tips, vehicle and pedestrian safety as well as older drivers’ physical fitness.

"Older drivers are generally very experienced, courteous and law abiding," Ms Fraser said.

"Over time however, roads have transformed from single lane thoroughfares to multilane freeways while many intersections contain roundabouts nowadays.

"These are just some of the changes older drivers have lived through."

NRMA's well received program has been in operation since 1999. In 2007, the program reached out to more than 200 community groups comprising of over 8,000 senior drivers, however, not all senior drivers are members of community groups and as a result have missed on attending this excellent program.

To address this issue and to also celebrate Seniors Week, NRMA Motoring & Services is holding a series of Years Ahead presentations for individuals who do not belong to community groups and who have previously missed out.

As part of the NRMA's commitment to road safety, the program is free and convenient as presenters come to senior's group locations throughout NSW/ACT.

The informative and informal presentation features up-to-date statistics and video footage.

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
