Public transport will be a viable option for residents of Glenfield, Edmonson Park and Leppington following the NSW Government’s announcement of 1,650 Park & Ride spaces at the new train stations.
NRMA Motoring & Services Director, Gary Punch, said today’s announcement of secure, well-lit Park & Ride facilities at the soon-to-be built train stations would encourage residents in south-west Sydney to use public transport more often.
"The NRMA outlined in our Park & Ride report last week that an effective way to encourage motorists to use public transport was by providing them with appropriate, safe parking facilities at their local station and bus interchange," Mr Punch said.
"We are thrilled that the NSW Government has taken our advice.
"Today's announcement is not just about building new train stations - it’s about taking a wider look at Sydney’s transport future and giving people real options so that the car is not their only realistic form of transport."
Mr Punch said the State Government had listened to the NRMA by not just planning for more parking spaces, but also making sure they were well-lit and secure with CCTV.
"NRMA's Park & Ride survey found almost half the motorists surveyed said they would use public transport if there were more secure parking spaces at their local station and bus interchange," Mr Punch said.
"The plans for these three new train stations meet this need.
"We are also pleased to see that the Park & Ride facility at Glenfield will be multi-storey as this makes better use of the land."

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
