Victoria Rd Plans Make Progress

Victoria Rd Plans Make Progress

Author: NRMA Media Date: 16 October 2008

NRMA Motoring & Services has welcomed the NSW Government's environmental assessment of its Victoria Road integrated transport proposal.

NRMA Director Coral Taylor said the NRMA supported plans to upgrade Victoria Road which is one of Sydney's busiest roads and a daily challenge for commuters.

"The environmental assessment means that progress is being made on this vital project which is a good thing for Sydney motorists," Ms Taylor said.

"We would also like to see a definite timeline for when motorists can expect the upgrades to be completed."

Proposed upgrades to Victoria Road include a duplication of the Iron Cove bridge and peak hour bus lanes along Victoria Road.

Pedestrians and cyclists using the popular 'bay run' are also in line to benefit from a much wider and safer path across the Iron Cove Bridge.

Ms Taylor said the Victoria Road changes should encourage more people to catch the bus because services would be more reliable with improved travel times to and from the city.

"The introduction of bus lanes should give buses a smoother run into the city and get them out of lanes currently shared with cars," Ms Taylor said

"The NRMA has been following the plight of commuters on Victoria Road closely and made a submission to the Government early this year on how to get traffic flowing smoothly.

"We are pleased the Government has taken some of our suggestions on board."

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
