F6: Failure To Launch

F6: Failure To Launch

Author: NRMA Motoring & ServicesDate: 16 June 2009

The F6 Extension, Picton Road and Mt Ousley Road have been ignored in today's NSW Budget.

NRMA Motoring & Services Director Michael Tynan said 2010 street directory producers would once again be printing "proposed" along the F6 corridor between Loftus and St Peters in their guides - something they have been doing for over 40 years now.

"The NSW Government could not even find the NRMA-requested $2 million for F6 Extension planning among its $4.4 billion Roads Budget," Mr Tynan said.

"Illawarra residents, F6 road users and transport companies all deserve an explanation why consideration was not given to the state's third largest city.

"In a further blow, the dangerous Picton Road has been ignored as was the NRMA-requested $20 million for six Mt Ousley climbing lanes.

"How many more needless crashes need to occur on Picton Road before the NSW Government listens?"

The Illawarra received some funding for projects including the Northern Distributor and slope grading on Mt Ousley Road.

Mr Tynan said any new money committed to road safety and improvements was welcome however the NSW Government is falling too far behind by spending too little too late.

"In some good news for Illawarra residents, the NSW Government invested $51.9 million in NSW tourism and abolished stamp duty on caravan and camper trailer registration," Mr Tynan said.

"As one of the state's largest providers of travel and accommodation services the NRMA is pleased the Government has provided a much-needed boost to the state's tourism industry.

"Campaigns to encourage people to holiday in NSW and easing taxes on caravans and trailers will ultimately benefit local communities that rely so heavily on tourism support."
