The Australian Government should use this year's Federal Budget to finally get the ball rolling on the F6 extension.
In its submission to the Federal Budget, NRMA Motoring & Services has outlined key NSW road projects that desperately need funding, including the completion of the F6 Extension and more black-spot funding for local roads.
NRMA Deputy-President Michael Tynan said the current economic climate offered the Australian Government the perfect opportunity to begin work on the critical link between the southern suburbs of Sydney to the CBD.
"Residents from Wollongong to the Sutherland Shire and St George have waited so long for the F6 extension," Mr Tynan said.
"The F6 extension is the type of major project the Australian Government needs to invest in to provide a much-needed boost to the NSW economy and provide first-class infrastructure for future generations.
"If the Prime Minister and the Treasurer are going to spend in order to bolster the economy, then it should be on projects like the F6 extension that will have short term benefits and also deliver economic and transport benefits for generations to come.
"This is how the Government can create jobs and economic activity in NSW."
The NRMA submission lists key road projects for the Government to fund including the construction of new motorways such as the M4 East, F3 to Sydney Orbital Link, Pacific Highway and Princes Highway.
Mr Tynan said the Federal Budget should also include a serious commitment to address Australia's long-term energy future.
"At the end of this economic downturn economies like India and China will have a renewed thirst for oil and Australian motorists are likely to be exposed to petrol prices higher than we've ever seen before," Mr Tynan said.
"The United States has outlined its strategy to end North America's dependence on foreign oil, our Government must release Australia's plan."
