Increased Funding For Central Coast Welcomed But More Needed

Increased Funding For Central Coast Welcomed But More Needed

Author: NRMA Motoring & ServicesDate: 16 June 2009

Central Coast roads have had a funding increase in the NSW Budget however a number of important road projects have been forgotten.

Spending on Central Coast roads has increased from $87.5 million last year to $102.6 million this year.

NRMA local Director Kyle Loades said most of the funds would be spent maintaining existing projects, with no new road projects planned by the Government.

"The NRMA welcomes the slight increase in road funding in order to maintain projects that are already under way," Mr Loades said.

"However, a number of key projects well-known to local motorists as being in desperate need of funding have again missed out."

In its Budget submission to the NSW Government the NRMA called for the upgrade of the:

  • Pacific Highway through the Wyong CBD
  • Intersection of Central Coast Highway, Brisbane Water Drive and Manns Road at West Gosford

The NRMA has also called for work to start on the F3 to M2.

Woy Woy, Tuggerah and Wyong train stations will receive more commuter parking spaces as part of the NSW Government's $170 million statewide commitment to 7,000 parking spaces.

"These commuter parking spaces will encourage people on the Central Coast to use public transport and therefore help ease congestion on the crowded F3," Mr Loades said.

The NSW Budget includes an extra $400 million for NSW roads to a total spend of $4.4 billion. It is unclear how much of the $4.4 billion is money already provided by the Australian Government.

The $400 million increase in roads represents a real increase of eight per cent on last year (inflation forecast at 2 per cent), including Australian Government funds.

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
