NRMA Donates Car To Help Central Coast Homeless

Author: NRMA Motoring & ServicesDate: 27 September 2009

NRMA Motoring & Services will donate a Ford Falcon Ute to Coast Shelter at 10:00am tomorrow 23 September at the NRMA Office in Gosford.

NRMA Director Kyle Loades said the NRMA was proud to support Coast Shelter which is the largest provider of emergency accommodation on the Central Coast.

"Coast Shelter is one of the NRMA's corporate charity partners and does an invaluable job of working with homeless people and helping people who are at risk of living on the street," Mr Loades said.

"Coast Shelter will use the Ford Falcon to help relocate people and to collect new and used furniture to support the refuge.

"NRMA staff have supported Coast Shelter since 2004 and contribute about $2,500 each year to buy for food for the Coast Shelter kitchen.

"Each fortnight two NRMA staff also volunteer in the Coast Shelter kitchen to serve meals."

Last year Coast Shelter's six refuges and supported accommodation programs gave 409 disadvantaged people somewhere to live for 33,825 days and served 51,207 free meals in their Donnison Street restaurant.

Coast Shelter Executive Officer Laurie Maher said the Ford Falcon will make many daily tasks much easier.

"The waiting list for public housing on the Central Coast is more than 12 years, this leaves more and more of our citizens in dire need of assistance," Mr Maher said.

"Coast Shelter is all about helping these disadvantaged members of the community and the support it receives from companies like the NRMA is crucial to its existence."

Note: NRMA Director Kyle Loades will present the Ford Falcon to Coast Shelter EO Laurie Maher at 10:45am, Wednesday 23 September outside the Gosford NRMA Office. Address: 126 Erina Street, Gosford. Kimberly Rigby: 0439 133 215
