NRMA Not Slashing Services Or Patrols

Author: Peter KhouryDate: 18 October 2009

In response to a media article NRMA Motoring & Services has rejected claims it is slashing services or patrols.

Despite the tough trading conditions last year, experienced by companies worldwide, NRMA has continued to invest in its frontline staff and core service of roadside assistance.

NRMA Group CEO Tony Stuart said while the NRMA reduced costs in some areas last year in the face of the global crisis, frontline operations like patrols and call centre staff were specifically excluded.

"The NRMA is not slashing services or patrols," Mr Stuart said.

"In the face of the global crisis we actually invested more into our core business of roadside assistance, that's one of the reasons why NRMA's response times to Members broken down are amongst the highest in the world and in fact have improved," Mr Stuart said

Tough conditions over the last 12 months saw the NRMA post a $61.8 million loss, of which 81 per cent was unrealised due to a fall in the value of investments. The value of these investments has already recovered significantly.

"While last year was a tough year for all Australian companies we are pleased to have experienced a turnaround and the NRMA is on target to achieve a $20 million profit in the first quarter of this financial year," Mr Stuart said.

"There will be no slashing of services or increases in membership fees beyond the normal annual CPI increase.

"Rather, NRMA Members can look forward to increased services next year, including more Member Response Units which can transport most vehicles if they are not repairable, a call back option for Members calling from mobile phones during busy periods and a new online request service for Members at home or in the office.

"As families look to save money we will also offer greater benefits and discounts through the NRMA Group of businesses like the expanding MotorServe Care Service Centres, Safer Driving Schools and the More4Members loyalty program."

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
