National Roads & Motoring Services' Safer Driving School North Suburbs turns one next week with the satisfaction it has taught over 500 drivers of all ages how to drive competently and safely.
As part of the one year anniversary celebrations, the driving school is giving the region's learner drivers an opportunity to win a prize.
Every student who has a lesson with NRMA Safer Driving School North Suburbs up until 31 March 2009 will receive an entry in to a draw for an Apple iPod touch 16 GB valued at $419.
Manager, Phillip Wells said he was delighted that Sydney's Northern suburbs residents had embraced the driving school in the past year.
"I like to think that NRMA Safer Driving Schools provide our community with safer and better educated drivers," Mr Wells said. Just over a year ago, Mr Wells was looking for a new challenge after being Head of Industrial Arts at a Hunters Hill school for the past 15 years.
Mr Wells said communicating with 16 - 18 year olds on a daily basis and teaching his three sons how to drive inspired him to take on a new challenge as a driving instructor.
"I saw many similarities in the quality and reputation of the school and the NRMA as both were established institutions with a very good reputation and high standards," Mr Wells said.
As the workload increased after his driving school was established, Mr Wells sought more staff and one year on, has three qualified instructors.
Mr Wells said he didn't want to forget about senior drivers when new older driver laws were introduced last December and hired Garna, an RTA accredited Senior Driving Assessor.
"Garna has been an instructor for six years and is patient and methodical and the feedback we receive from older drivers is fantastic," Mr Wells said.
"A driver's licence can be critical to older people's quality of life and we are delighted to be able to provide them with lessons and testing in the comfort of their own environment."
NRMA local Director Geoff Toovey added Safer Driving Schools emphasised safety from day one and the detailed curriculum ensured drivers have the skills, knowledge and abilities to cope with normal driving events which they could expect to encounter.
"We want to do all we can to make sure that drivers of all ages are the safest ever, and NRMA Safer Driving School North Suburbs brings us one step closer to this reality," Mr Toovey said.
NRMA Safer Driving School Northern Suburbs operates in the following suburbs and lessons taken by students in these suburbs are only eligible for competition entry: Northbridge, Artarmon, Lane Cove, Castlecrag, Willoughby, Roseville, Lindfield, Killara, Pymble, Gordon, Turramurra, St Ives, Wahroonga, Normanhurst, Asquith, Waitara, Mount Colah, Berowra, Cowan, Woolwich, Gladesville, North Ryde, Macquarie Centre, Macquarie University, Thornleigh, Pennant Hills Chatswood to Hornsby and Hunters Hill to Berowra Waters.

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
