It was smiles all round when eight adults with an intellectual disability and their support workers from Kurrajong Waratah's Narrandera Cypress Centre were treated to a three day holiday at NRMA Merimbula Beach Holiday Park during May.
NRMA Narrandera Country Service Centre (CSC) Proprietor Brett Robinson organised and funded the trip with support from NRMA Merimbula Beach Holiday Park.
Mr Robinson said that the trip was designed to give a new experience and opportunity to adults with a disability from Narrandera and a break for their loved ones who normally provide full time care.
"During difficult economic times, we wanted to give the Narrandera Cypress Centre group a break from it all for a few days," Mr Robinson said.
The group travelled by bus from Narrandera to Merimbula and spent two nights in beachside cabins donated by NRMA Holiday Parks.
Narrandera Cypress Centre Manager Nicole Steele said the touring party spent their time enjoying activities such as fishing and ten pin bowling.
"Some of the group had never seen the ocean before," Ms Steele said.
"The highlight was undoubtedly riding the streets of Merimbula in a decommissioned war tank.
"The tank is owned by Shane Goddard from NRMA Pambula CSC who collects vintage vehicles of all varieties."
Mr Robinson said the trip would not have been possible without the support of NRMA Merimbula Beach Holiday Parks, Shane Goddard from NRMA Pambula CSC and bus driver, Bill Robinson.
