NSW Budget: North-West Mess Continues

NSW Budget: North-West Mess Continues

Author: NRMA Motoring & ServicesDate: 18 June 2009

NRMA Motoring & Services Director Coral Taylor has criticised the NSW Government for stalling north-west Sydney infrastructure plans once again in yesterday's Budget.

Ms Taylor said north-west residents deserve an explanation from the Government regarding the lack of planning and funding.

"The NSW Department of Planning is anticipating 140,000 new dwellings in the North West Growth Centre by 2031 which in turn will bring tens of thousands of commuters on to local roads," Ms Taylor said.

"Last year's axing of public transport infrastructure projects in the north-west worsened an already unacceptable situation for the region's commuters - the overcrowding of roads and public transport will only worsen after this year's Budget announcement.

"While the NRMA welcomes any road planning commitment, $15.7 million for the North Western Sydney Roads Program and $1 million for M2 enhancements will not ease the mind of any north-west Sydney resident."

Drivers using Pennant Hills Road will continue to suffer with painstakingly slow-moving traffic and delays as plans for the F3-M2 link remain only an Australian Government priority.

Ms Taylor said the NSW Government was simply not able to deliver the required infrastructure.

"It is difficult to comprehend why a Government would not put north-west Sydney infrastructure priorities higher on its list given it is one of the fastest growing population areas in Sydney," Ms Taylor said.
