NRMA Motoring & Services President Wendy Machin today welcomed the State Budget's commitment of $660 million of combined NSW and Australian Government funding for the Pacific Highway.
"Communities along the coast have been waiting since 1989 for the promise of dual carriageway to be fulfilled, with the most recent deadline being set at 2016," Ms Machin said.
"Two-thirds of the Pacific Highway is yet to be upgraded to an acceptable standard but with every announcement like this we get one step closer to achieving our goal of a dual divided carriageway.
"The Pacific Highway is one of the nation's most important roads and completing the upgrade by 2016 must be a priority for the Australian and NSW Governments.
"The NRMA will continue to watch the upgrade closely and hold both governments to account.
"The people of NSW will not tolerate any future funding setbacks that would prevent the Pacific Highway being completed on time and on budget."
