NRMA Motoring & Services local Director David Bentham has welcomed the announcement that construction has begun on a new $15 million multi-deck commuter car park at Holsworthy.
Mr Bentham said the start of work was welcome news for Holsworthy residents who used the station as a commuter link to travel to the CBD and other parts of Sydney.
"The NRMA has been actively campaigning for more commuter car parking and is pleased the Government is listening to south western Sydney motorists' concerns," Mr Bentham said.
"This new car park will complement the existing multi-deck car park at Holsworthy."
Last year, the NRMA completed an audit of key Park and Ride facilities in NSW. Part of the audit included a survey of 600 motorists about their transport habits.
Almost half said they would use Park and Ride facilities rather than drive to work if more facilities were available.
Mr Bentham said the NRMA's research found more than 60 per cent of motorists surveyed cited availability, affordability and the lack of safe parking facilities as the main reasons why they did not drive to the station and catch the train to work.
"The State Government has addressed some of these needs," Mr Bentham said.
"The NRMA will keep a keen eye on the progress of this initiative to ensure Park and Ride facilities are delivered across the region - particularly at the busiest railway stations."

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
