Travel Advice To Help Save Travellers' Sanity
Australia's first travel magazine written by its readers, Way2go, is offering readers practical travel advice to help prevent holiday hassles and avert potential personal disasters.
Way2go Editor Sandy McPhie said readers' travel tips were a valuable resource that should not be underestimated as they have the potential to save people time, money and stress.
"Some readers' tips are simple and practical, while others, including passport validity requirements, are a real eye-opener," Ms McPhie said.
Way2go's sanity saving travel tips include:
- Check passport validity: International destinations have varying passport validity regulations. Some destinations, such as Fiji, require three months passport validity. Other destinations such as Bali require a minimum of six months passport validity. Strict Australian and international passport regulations cannot be waived at the point of departure.
- Resist the temptation to buy alcohol and perfume during transit at international airports: Due to changes in safety regulations, air travellers are not allowed to take more than 100ml of liquid on a flight. Leave liquid duty free purchases for the final destination.
- Online booking hazard: When booking travel arrangements online, check all details are correct, paying special attention to the date and time. One click means details can be changed inadvertently and travellers may not realise their mistake until too late.
- Lost luggage: Suitcases go astray regularly. If two people are travelling, pack half of each suitcase with the other person's belongings. If one suitcase goes astray, both people will have a change of clothes.
- Hotel room security: Travelling with a rubber door stop can offer an easy and cheap security option if travellers are staying in accommodation with questionable door locks. Wedging a rubber door stop under the door at the point furthest from the hinges; is effective in stopping doors from being forced open.
Check passport validity: International destinations have varying passport validity regulations. Some destinations, such as Fiji, require three months passport validity. Other destinations such as Bali require a minimum of six months passport validity. Strict Australian and international passport regulations cannot be waived at the point of departure.
"Way2go is always on the look-out for practical travel tips, engaging travel stories, special photos and travel memories," Ms McPhie said.
"Successful contributors are rewarded with travel prizes and cash."
