100+ Vintage Cars Converge On NRMA Merimbula Beach Holiday Park

Author: NRMA MotoringDate: 19 February 2009

A collection of more than 100 lovingly restored vintage vehicles will be on display on Sunday 22 February at the NRMA Merimbula Beach Holiday Park at Short Point Beach on the NSW South Coast.

NRMA Motoring & Services Director Alan Evans said the seaside venue was a glorious backdrop for the vintage car enthusiasts gathering, an event which is becoming a much anticipated and popular annual attraction on the Sapphire Coast Events calendar.

"Around 3,500 people attended the 2008 event and organisers are hoping for more this year as the number of cars participating has increased," Mr Evans said.

A Saracen tank that served in Afghanistan will be on display as well as vintage cars dating from the 1920s. There will be three categories of cars on display:

  • Rare Vehicles
  • Classic Vintage Vehicles
  • Sports Cars

The one day event organised by the NRMA Merimbula Beach Holiday Park and the Sapphire Coast Historical Vehicle Club attracts car enthusiasts from the ACT Porsche Club, Eurobodalla Car Club, Cooma Car Club, Bega Car Club, Sapphire Coast Car Club, and Lakes Entrance Car Club.

The cars will be on display from 10.00am, admission is a gold coin donation per person and all funds raised will be donated to the Bega Hospital Oncology Department.

A full day of entertainment featuring The O'Donnell Family, Gary Jones, The Lounge Lizards plus Elvis and Pavarotti tributes are sure to delight the crowd.

NRMA Pambula Country Service Centre, who won $2,500 through a NRMA Batteries community promotion, will be presenting a cheque to Pambula Aquatic Centre and St John's Church Bega for $1,250 each.

NRMA Batteries will also be hosting a barbeque with all proceeds going to the Bega Oncology Unit.

Mr Evans said it's fantastic that NRMA Pambula and NRMA Batteries were so willing to support local community initiatives and groups.

NRMA Merimbula Beach Holiday Park will be providing plenty of shade.

Cheeky Mango Café and the Grange Restaurant will be preparing reasonably priced refreshments.
