ACT Budget Good News For Commuters

Author: NRMA MediaDate: 04 May 2010

This year's ACT Budget is good news for ACT commuters, according to NRMA Director Alan Evans.

Mr Evans said the NRMA was pleased the Government had listened to the needs of frustrated ACT commuters in today's Budget announcement.

"The NRMA is pleased that money has been allocated to continue the duplication of Gunghalin Drive by June 2012," Mr Evans said.

"A dual-carriageway Gunghalin Drive will prevent current bottlenecks and free up access for north-to-south commuters to the west of Canberra.

"The only omission the NRMA is concerned about is funding for the already-identified Majura Parkway to link the Federal Highway to the Monaro Highway. The new road would help with congestion and improve north-south traffic movement to the east of Canberra."

The NRMA is pleased the Government has identified the need for Park and Ride facilities at regional centres including Belconnen and Tuggeranong and that $4.1 million has been provided to construct these transport hubs.

Mr Evans said that more people would be able to get to work on time without the stress and worry of finding a place to park.

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
