Australian Classic Car Magazine Celebrates 200th Issue

Author: NRMA MediaDate: 17 February 2010

Australian Classic Car magazine was conceived two hundred issues or seventeen years ago in a small 'dungeon' under a Paddington terrace. These days the magazine's home is at NRMA Publishing.

Kris Ashton, editor of Australian Classic Car said the 200th issue Australian Classic Car covers a lot of ground, going back to the beginning for a dose of nostalgia and looking to the future.

"Australian Classic Car has evolved over the years culminating with a cover makeover which included a new masthead just last month in anticipation of this milestone celebration", Mr Ashton said.

The 200th edition features:

  • In the beginning - a bonus magazine '200' detailing how Australian Classic Car began
  • Holden vs. Ford; motoring rivalry at its finest. Racing, luxury and small cars are compared, plus an interview with Dick Johnson about Australian motorsport's deepest rivalry
  • A retrospective of issues now in the archives
  • Favourite covers from issues gone by.

"Our magazine features cars other magazines won't. Not all the cars we feature are super flash to look at, but they are original, they are preserved history which is of great interest to our readers" Mr Ashton said.

The magazine has a loyal fan base, and is a definite favourite for classic car lovers Australia-wide.

NRMA Publishing purchased the magazine in 2008. It has enhanced the magazine's appeal by introducing a variety of new elements, including the inaugural Australian Classic Car awards, judged in late 2009 with winners announced in the 199th issue.

Australian Classic Car is published by NRMA Publishing, part of NRMA Motoring & Services Group.
