Calling All Young People To Create Inspiring Road Safety Messages

Author: NRMA MediaDate: 24 May 2010

Time is running out for local councils, community groups, youth-based organisations and individuals to apply for their share of $100,000 in NRMA Safer Driving School Road Safety Grants.

NRMA Motoring & Services President Wendy Machin said the NRMA grants gave inspirational road safety ideas the chance to become a reality and make a real difference at a local level.

"For the first time we are asking young people to apply for a grant and create a message around road safety which resonates with them," Ms Machin said.

"Who better to create a road safety message or concept that youth will connect with than other young people?

"The sky's the limit - NRMA welcomes submissions to be anything from songs or banners and signs to games, radio ads, videos or ideas for effective communication using social networking sites.

"We are looking for fabulous ideas on road safety which have the potential to be communicated widely.

"Successful 'youth category' submissions will receive $1,000 to research, create and communicate their message."

Submissions close 18 June 2010 for the following grant categories:

  • General community - grants up to $5,000
  • Youth - ten $1,000 grants
  • High School - ten $1,000 grants
  • Infant/Pre-Schoolers - four $2,500 grants
  • Older Road Users - four $2,500 grants
