Canberra's Young And Old Win Big In NRMA Everyday Sporting

What do the YMCA and AFL Canberra have in common? They have both won a $5,000 Rebel Sport Gift card courtesy of the 2009 NRMA Everyday Sporting Legends program.

The YMCA of Canberra will use their gift card to purchase training equipment for its 7th annual Senior Sports Carnival and AFL Canberra is excited about buying fitness equipment and uniforms to help develop Youth Girls AFL in the ACT.

NRMA Director Alan Evans said NRMA Motoring & Services and Rebel Sport teamed up for the first time last year to support sport in NSW and ACT communities with up to $150,000 in Rebel Sport gift cards up for grabs.

"The NRMA was flooded with entries from primary and secondary schools, sports teams and individuals wanting their chance to receive a $10,000, $5,000 or $500 Rebel Sport gift card," Mr Evans said.

"Canberra YMCA and AFL Canberra were two of fifteen winners throughout NSW and the ACT that received a $5,000 Rebel Sport gift card to purchase sporting equipment.

"Seven individuals from the ACT also received a $500 Rebel Sport Gift Card each to help support their sporting dreams.

"Em Blamey from Torrens will use her $500 gift card to pursue her team's efforts to play broomball for Austria at the World Championships, while Mike McCartney from Macarthur will use his to continue an inspirational weight loss journey which has seen him already lose 20kgs.

"These are exactly the kind of sporting groups and individuals the NRMA Everyday Sporting Legends Program aims to help."

Mr Evans said the quality of entries for the first ever NRMA Everyday Sporting Legends Program was extremely impressive with a host of stories, photos and video footage submitted to support a variety of sporting goals from NSW and ACT communities.
