Fed Involvement In Sydney Infrastructure Welcomed

Author: NRMA MediaDate: 11 August 2010

NRMA Motoring & Services has today welcomed the announcement by the Australian Government to support the fast-track of planning and funding for the M5 East Tunnel and F3 to Sydney Orbital.

NRMA President Wendy Machin said the NRMA had long argued that the transport needs for Sydney were too great for the NSW Government to address alone.

"After decades of neglect it is pleasing to see Sydney's transport needs are finally getting some recognition," Ms Machin said.

"Given Sydney is the economic hub of the nation and Australia's showcase city to the rest of the world it is critical the Australian Government play a bigger part in the planning and construction of the city's transport projects.

"There are a number of extremely important roads and public transport projects that need to be built in Sydney but have been ignored for too long.

"The Government's announcement is a step in the right direction because it will mean planning will finally start for the F3 to Sydney Orbital and M5 East tunnel.

"These major transport projects need the involvement of all levels of Government if they are to be built."
