Glenfield Helping Hand, Ken Patterson has been nominated in this year's NRMA Helping People Awards for his outstanding contribution to the community.
Ken Patterson has been nominated for a Senior Volunteer Award for his work with the CHARGE Syndrome Association of Australasia which assists families whose children have been born with a rare condition of birth defects.
NRMA Director David Bentham said NRMA launched the Helping People Awards in 2005 to shine a light on volunteers who rarely get recognised for their important community work.
"Mr Patterson's work in the community is an inspiring example of helping others and I encourage people to nominate a volunteer they know who also does amazing work," Mr Bentham said.
Fellow Board Director Nicole Tebble said Ken was a founding member of the CHARGE Association and has served on the Board continuously since its inception in 1996.
"Ken has a 27 year old daughter with the CHARGE condition and often reassures parents and carers of younger children with CHARGE as to their child's future," Mrs Tebble said.
"Ken is very community minded and also recently helped to raise $25,000 for the Special Olympics Committee to send athletes to The World Games in Athens in 2011."
It's not too late to nominate someone you know who is a real Helping Hand. Volunteers can be nominated in one of the following award categories until Friday, 16 July 2010:
The four winners will receive a $5,000 donation to the charity they volunteer for, plus a great Australian getaway for two.
