Hay Rugby League Gets $11,000 Thanks To NRMA And Rebel Sport

Hay Junior Rugby League Club will have 11,000 reasons to smile tomorrow when they are presented with a $10,000 Rebel Sports gift card and a $1,000 sports pack as a winner of the 2009 NRMA Everyday Sporting Legends program.

The presentation will be made at Hay Golf Club on Saturday night during the Hay Sportsperson of the Year Awards.

The festivities will kick off earlier in the day with the NRMA's state-of-the-art Mobile Member Centre truck in the Hay Bowling Club car park from 11am-3pm. The road safety education centre on wheels will have giveaways, crash test videos, kids safety touch screen games, NRMA merchandise and all the latest road safety information.

NRMA Motoring & Services and Rebel Sport teamed up for the first time last year to support sport in NSW and ACT communities with up to $150,000 in Rebel Sport gift cards up for grabs.

NRMA Director Graham Blight said the NRMA was flooded with entries from primary and secondary schools, sports teams and individuals wanting their chance to receive a $10,000, $5,000 or $500 Rebel Sport gift card.

"Hay Junior Rugby League Club was one of five winners that received a $10,000 Rebel Sport gift card to purchase much needed sporting equipment," Mr Blight said.

"The club also received a bonus $1,000 sports pack prize for having the highest number of supporters with 720 people logging on to their profile page to show their support."

NRMA Country South Manager Steve Kimball said the club's 90 players, who compete in the Group 20 Rugby League competition, travel 350km return from Hay to either Griffith or Leeton each weekend during winter without the reprieve of a home game.

"You can see from the club's online entry and the comments from its 720 supporters that a strong and positive team spirit is promoted. It is exactly the kind of sporting group the NRMA Everyday Sporting Legends Program aims to help," Mr Kimball said.

The club attributed their win to the amazing support it received from more than 22 per cent of the Hay community.
