The NRMA is calling on the ACCC to investigate petrol prices in Canberra following a sudden increase this week.
NRMA local Director Alan Evans said the average price in Canberra this week was over seven cents per litre more than Sydney and Canberra now had the second highest prices of any capital city in Australia, only behind Darwin.
"Sadly, Canberrans are used to prices being higher than Sydney because of the lack of competition in the area, however this week's price hike is five to six cents a litre higher than it should be and that can't be justified," Mr Evans said.
The highest average price of petrol in Canberra on Thursday was $1.29 cents per litre - almost 10 cents higher than Sydney.
"Prices in Canberra today are even more expensive than Hobart, which traditionally tends to be higher," Mr Evans said.
"We want the Petrol commissioner to look at petrol prices in Canberra because it appears that motorists are being over-charged yet again."
