Macarthur Soccer Association Win NRMA Everyday Sporting Legends

Local children's soccer team, the Picton Rangers from the Macarthur Soccer Association have 5,000 reasons to celebrate the New Year as one of the lucky winners of the 2009 NRMA Everyday Sporting Legends Program.

NRMA Motoring & Services and Rebel Sport teamed up for the first time last year to support sport in NSW and ACT communities with up to $150,000 in Rebel Sport gift cards up for grabs.

NRMA Director David Bentham said the NRMA was flooded with entries from primary and secondary schools, sports teams and individuals wanting their chance to receive a $10,000, $5,000 or $500 Rebel Sport gift card.

“The Picton Rangers are part of the Macarthur Soccer Association, which was one of fifteen winners throughout NSW and the ACT to receive a $5,000 Rebel Sport gift card,” Mr Bentham said.

The association's online entry said the Rangers had been playing in the Wollondilly, Macarthur, and Illawarra area since 1972 with the need for good equipment every season remaining a constant despite the many changes since the club's inception.

Tracey Huntley from St Helen's Park, Stephanie Kennedy from Rosemeadow and Renita Lee from St Andrews also received a $500 Rebel gift card each to pursue their individual sporting dreams.

Tracey is an enthusiastic basketball player and referee, Stephanie plays soccer for school, State and NSW International Soccer teams, and Renita is a 16 year old elite figure skater who is sitting third on the reserve list for the 2010 Winter Olympic Team.

Mr Bentham said these are exactly the kind of sporting groups and individuals the NRMA Everyday Sporting Legends Program aims to help.

The first ever NRMA Everyday Sporting Legends Program has been well received with a host of quality stories, photos and video footage submitted to support a variety of sporting goals from NSW and ACT communities.
