Mona Vale Helping Hand, Janelle Bloom has been nominated in this year's NRMA Helping People Awards for her outstanding contribution to the community.
Janelle Bloom has been nominated for a Community Volunteer Award for her work with the Ronald McDonald House Randwick which helps seriously ill children and their families while they receive medical treatment, and assists recovering children to return to normal life.
NRMA Director Geoff Toovey said NRMA launched the Helping People Awards in 2005 to shine a light on volunteers who rarely get recognised for their important community work.
"Ms Bloom's work in the community is an inspiring example of helping others and I encourage people to nominate a volunteer they know who also does amazing work," Mr Toovey said.
Ronald McDonald House Randwick Manager Peter Schneider said Janelle joined the House in July 2007 as an Ambassador and agreed to be nominated for an award only if the prize was given to a family staying at Ronald McDonald House Randwick should she win.
"This altruism is characteristic of Janelle who visits the House once a week to spend time with the families and children staying there," Mr Schneider said.
"Janelle always takes time to speak with families and bring laughter and always great food to our guests.
"Janelle is a TV cooking show host and created a meal program where community and corporate groups prepare an evening meal for our families up to three times a week."
It's not too late to nominate someone you know who is a real Helping Hand. Volunteers can be nominated in one of the following award categories until Friday, 16 July 2010:
The four winners will receive a $5,000 donation to the charity they volunteer for, plus a great Australian getaway for two.
