North Shore Helping Hands Lyndell Van Noort from Turramurra and Don McLarty from Killara, have been nominated in this year's NRMA Helping People Awards for their outstanding contribution to the community.
NRMA Director Geoff Toovey said Mrs Van Noort and Mr McLarty were both nominated for a Senior Volunteer Award for their dedication to charity work and willingness to lend a Helping Hand whenever needed.
"NRMA launched the Helping People Awards in 2005 to shine a light on volunteers who rarely get recognised for their important community work," Mr Toovey said.
"We are pleased to be able to receive their nominations and I encourage people to nominate a volunteer they know who also does amazing work."
Easy Care Gardening Manager Mr Bruce Taylor said he nominated Mrs Van Noort for an award for her 22 years of committed volunteer work with Easy Care Gardening.
"Easy Care Gardening helps elderly and disabled pensioners maintain their gardens and one day a week, every week for these 22 years, Lyndell has been working in the gardens of our
elderly clients," Mr Taylor said.
"She weeds, prunes, mulches and makes gardens safe and tidy - more and more often for clients who are younger than she is.
"Lyndell, who also volunteers at Hornsby Shire's Lilian Fraser Gardens and is a carer for her husband, is a most deserving recipient for an NRMA Helping People Award."
Second North Shore nominee, Mr McLarty, was nominated for an award by his wife Tina for his volunteer work with the Centre for Cerebral Palsy.
"Don is a wonderful and dedicated volunteer who has made a real difference in the life of a cerebral palsy patient called Michael," Mrs McLarty said.
"Michael, after spending time with Don every week, has turned into a positive, smiling and happy person."
It's not too late to nominate someone you know who is a real Helping Hand. Volunteers can be nominated in one of the following award categories until Friday, 16 July 2010:
The four winners will receive a $5,000 donation to the charity they volunteer for, plus a great Australian getaway for two.
