The NRMA Group has recovered from the tough trading conditions brought about by the global financial crisis with a $105 million financial turnaround, delivering a $26 million profit before tax for the year ending 30 June 2010.
The NRMA Groups comprises NRMA Motoring & Services and subsidiary businesses in motoring, travel and car rental.
Revenue from operations increased to $430 million (2008/09: $425 million). Membership levels for Australia's largest mutual also grew for the third year in a row to over 2.2 million Members in NSW and the ACT.
NRMA's investment portfolio grew in value by more than $33 million to over $430 million, achieving a positive return before tax of 10 per cent.
NRMA Group CEO Tony Stuart said the challenge set last year to return the company to profitability without sacrificing service to Members had been met.
"This is a strong turnaround for the business in just 12 months," Mr Stuart said.
"Through improving business efficiencies across the NRMA Group we were able to reduce costs while maintaining the NRMA's high customer satisfaction levels.
"Our subsidiary businesses have all performed better than last year and the performance of Thrifty, following the NRMA Group taking complete ownership and implementing its own management team, is particularly pleasing.
"The financial gains made by the NRMA Group will be reinvested into those services valued by our Members, including our legendary roadside assistance."
The NRMA capped off a successful year by being awarded the Australian Business Award for Service Excellence for the second year in a row, along with the Australian Business Awards for Community Engagement and Innovation.
NRMA President Wendy Machin said the company had enhanced its roadside assistance service to Members by unveiling Australia’s first ever iPhone application, an SMS service and a call-back service for Members broken down on the side of the road.
"The NRMA's role as the motorists' champion has again delivered dividends to our Members, with increases in road funding, improvements to learner licensing laws, and better safety around school zones as a result of the NRMA's advocacy work.
"We held a second alternative fuel summit and led a coalition of interested groups to Canberra to encourage the Australian Government to end our dependence on imported oil and develop alternative fuels and technologies.
"Members have also collectively saved $19 million in purchases through the More4Members program."

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
