NRMA Welcomes Australian Government Funds For ANCAP Testing

Author: NRMA MediaDate: 07 June 2010

NRMA Motoring & Services road safety ambassador and Director Coral Taylor today welcomed the Australian Government's $5 million commitment to the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

"The $5 million contribution over five years means ANCAP will be able to test 25-to-30 additional vehicles over that time," Ms Taylor said.

"This is good news for drivers who will have a greater range of vehicles labeled with an ANCAP safety rating.

"Safer vehicles result in reduced injuries in crashes and therefore the overall cost to the community of road crashes.

"According to Monash University research, around 170 lives have been saved each year in Australia since 1991 - directly attributed to improvements in vehicle safety.

"The NRMA recommends a minimum four and preferably five-star rating for all vehicles."

For a full list of vehicle safety ratings, including more commercial vehicles, and other vehicle safety information, visit www.mynrma.com.au/ancap.

ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, all Australian state governments, the New Zealand government, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NRMA Insurance and the FIA Foundation.
