Having NRMA BusinessWise Absolute coverage has helped Bluedog Fences, a rapidly expanding family business, have the confidence to take on bigger commercial and government jobs.
Bluedog Fences Australia began life as a small family business in Tamworth. By 2005, the business had moved its headquarters to Sydney, and grown to include 3 branches and 35 staff.
With a fleet of vehicles that includes cars, trucks, utes and trailers, having good coverage has proven essential to keeping the business running smoothly. "Any downtime costs money. But certainly for us, when fences aren't going up it really costs money – so when that happens we need to get the problem sorted out as soon as possible," says Doug Lobban, Installation Supervisor for Bluedog.
As the business has grown, Bluedog has moved away from smaller domestic installation jobs in Sydney, to handling bigger commercial and government jobs in locations all over New South Wales, from Wagga Wagga to Bega, Tamworth and Dubbo. As a result, better coverage was needed that provided for long distance towing, as well as hire vehicles, so that installers can get back on the job quickly when problems occured.
On the way home from a job in Tamworth, one of Bluedog's installers broke down. The installer organised for towing but not through NRMA. Once the mistake was realised and a call was placed, the NRMA quickly reimbursed the towing cost regardless.
"NRMA was great to deal with it. They processed the payment quickly and put it through, no dramas," explains Lobban.
"Having the journey continuity really helps on interstate jobs if we need to hire a vehicle or have extra towing."Doug Lobban, Bluedog Installation Supervisor, and NRMA Member since 2004 |
Another incident saw a truck break down in Newcastle. "By that time we'd increased the coverage [to Absolute] so we were able to have it towed all the way back to Sydney. NRMA picked me up in another vehicle and drove me back home, so that all went swimmingly. In that instance, being able to get the truck back to our own mechanic was a huge plus as we ended up having to put a whole new motor in. For us not to have to deal with someone we didn't know was massive. Without the cover, we’d have had to pay for it to be towed from Newcastle all the way to Sydney. And that would have cost a fortune."
Lobban says that aside from the major advantages of long-distance towing, and replacement-vehicle coverage, the cost savings of simply being able to get their employees back to work quickly were enormous.
"If you start adding up man hours... whenever our employees are not putting up fences we're losing money, which is a really significant cost that can run into the thousands over the course of a week. Not to mention the stress of having to deal with it all. It's great to be able to just make a single phone call to NRMA and have it fixed."
