We´ve got our roads back

Morris Iemma and Eric Roozendaal´s decision to return some of Sydney´s key roads to the public is a fantastic result for the people of NSW, NRMA Motoring & Services President Alan Evans said today.

?Motorists have won the battle after 14 long months of campaigning for a better deal out of the Cross City Tunnel,? Mr Evans said.

?Road closures have caused traffic hell and chaos for motorists. Today, that ends.?

Mr Evans said that it was more than one year ago that NRMA began it´s extensive campaign to have major public roads including William St, Bourke St, Sir John Young Cres, Palmer St, Cowper Wharf Rd and Druitt St reopened.

?The public´s wrath at the chaos caused by the Cross City Tunnel road closures and toll made roads the number one issue in NSW.

?We have received countless letters from NRMA members furious that their roads were taken off them. Today, Morris Iemma and Eric Roozendaal have done the right thing and given those roads back.

?It shows the Government does respond to motorists´ concerns.?

Mr Evans said NRMA will now focus its fight on the Cross City Motorway to make sure motorists get a fair deal on the toll price.

?If the Cross City Motorway insists on charging an expensive toll to use the tunnel then they will continue to be ignored by motorists,? Mr Evans said.

?We believe $2.90 is a reasonable toll.?
