NRMA, prominent celebrity Carlotta and talented local artists including Reg Mombassa, Michael Leunig and Wendy Sharpe are among the hundred-strong supporters who will be present at The Wayside Chapel´s charity art auction at the King Street Gallery this Monday, October 16 2006.
Wayside Chapel Pastor Graham Long, said Carlotta would be MC on the night and many artists would be present with their donated art to show a united front against one of Sydney´s most addictive drugs.
?Over the last year or so The Wayside Chapel has seen a huge increase of people using our services that have been ravaged by the destructive effects of drugs like ICE,? Mr Long said.
?The Wayside Chapel encourages self-sufficient, healthy, drug-free living and shares NRMA´s vision of providing practical help to the local community.
??Words cannot explain how proud I am of our many local artists who have donated their art and time to support the auction.
The Wayside Chapel has been supporting the community for over 40 years and was Sydney´s first Lifeline and first 24-hour Crisis Centre. It also runs a street outreach team, and provides non judgemental support for those at risk.
Talented artist, Camilla Connolly, who in a darker period in her life, needed The Wayside Chapel, said The Wayside Chapel literally kept her alive in the late ?80´s.
?I now have love, art and the ability to give back to the community,? Mrs Connolly said.
All proceeds from the auction go to The Wayside Chapel and its continued fight against destructive substances like ICE. Visitors will be treated to a dazzling display of art from talented artists including Adam Cullen, Reg Mombassa, Wendy Sharpe, Naomi McCann, Camilla Connolly and Michael Leunig.
