?The Government´s package acknowledges that congestion is getting worse by the day and that it is a whole of Sydney problem and not just a CBD issue,? Mr Evans said.
?NRMA is pleased the Government has not been sidetracked by mirage alternatives like light rail and is using existing infrastructure to improve travel times.
?Going forward, NRMA would like the Government to fund an annual program to address traffic 'pinch points' across the metropolitan area.?
Mr Evans said the package only goes some of the way as building Sydney´s missing links would solve many of Sydney´s traffic woes.
?The M4 East, the F6 extension and the M2 - F3 link are all central to our city´s future and cannot be forgotten or ignored,? Mr Evans said.
?NRMA is concerned that installing new bus lanes on Victoria Road when Epping Road is being reduced to a single general traffic lane due to the Lane Cove Tunnel could combine to significantly to reduce capacity on these roads.
?We also support more Variable Message Signs to give motorists more information in real time and using red lanes to help people identify bus lanes.
?We hope the Government will remove the confusing red bus lanes from Park Street since buses do not use the city-bound lane and traffic is given no option to avoid the outbound lane.
?The NRMA will be seeking to be on the CBD working group on buses to ensure that the changes are integrated with cars and other road users.?
