NRMA Motoring & Services President, Alan Evans, said delaying changes to Epping Rd and the Gore Hill Freeway will go some way to getting the new tunnel off to a good start.
"The Cross City Tunnel forced road closures on the public the day the tunnel opened," Mr Evans said.
"NRMA has lobbied hard to ensure this is not repeated and we are pleased the Lane Cove Tunnel will not be doing the same.
"Giving the public up to 11 months to get used to the Lane Cove Tunnel before changes are made to the surrounding roads will give motorists a chance to get used to the new traffic conditions.
"However, if traffic congestion on the surface has not improved, we will be calling on the Government to reassess the changes until things improve."
Mr Evans said NRMA is concerned that not enough is being done to consult with the wider community about changes to other key roads around the Lane Cove Tunnel.
"There are some significant changes being planned for Mowbray Rd and Centennial Ave," Mr Evans said.
"The Government needs to broaden the consultation process. After all, it's not just local motorists who use these roads.
"This was one of the many mistakes made with the Cross City Tunnel and we urge the Government to step up its consultation and information campaign."
